• Fixed a minor conflict with Virex. Previously, a certain combination of Virex settings caused OtherMenu to fail to put new volumes in the menu.
• Fixed a bug in which the volume name in a directory dialog failed to change if you used OtherMenu to switch to a folder on a different volume.
• Fixed a bug that prevented you from choosing a font whose name had more than 31 characters.
• Made it possible (not to say easy) to run OtherMenu externals using QuicKeys 3.0.
• Updated Paste Clips external to allow clips up to 1K.
• Patched for compatibility with “SimpleText Color Menu”.
New in 1.4
----------
• Settings are now stored in an OtherMenu Preferences file.
• Options to set the text style of menu items according to whether they are folders, aliases, or other files.
• Provided some “fat patches” so that OtherMenu will not slow down PowerMacs.
• New QuickAlias external, for creation of multiple aliases in one folder without use of directory dialogs.
• New QuickTrash external, for trashing multiple files or folders.
• New Quote external, for BBS quoting or hard-wrapping of text on the clipboard.
• File Info external now edits application memory sizes.
• Modified online documentation reader to save text styles when you click “Save as TeachText”, since TeachText is being replaced by SimpleText, which uses styles.
• If a font other than the system font is being used in the menu, then the square root symbol (√) will be substituted for the checkmark in menus such as Speaker Volume.
• Improved compatibility with Alias Repair.
• Several externals (File Info, Make Alias As, Put Away, Volume Info) made smaller by calling back to OtherMenu for common tasks.
New in 1.3.1
------------
• Modified handling of Recent Items folder. When you use an folder alias in Recent Items to access a file nested inside that folder, it counts as a use, and thus makes the folder alias persist longer in Recent Items.
• Fixed a conflict between Find Pro III and the File Info external. Possibly other combinations of applications and externals could have had this problem. Symptom: The external’s window appears with wild colors, and later there is a bus error.
• Fixed minor conflicts with PopMail and OzTeX. Symptom: In certain directory dialogs, attempting to pull down the Other menu just caused a beep. (In this situation one was also unable to use the help menu, so it can be considered a bug in those applications.)
• Fixed a minor conflict with Anarchie. Symptom: One was unable to use OtherMenu to change the directory when Anarchie was showing a folder selection dialog.
• Fixed intermittent “-37” error messages reported to occur on a Mac Plus.
• Fixed a conflict with Apple’s Installer. Symptom: During some installation processes, there was an extra disk insertion dialog, which got you into a situation where the Mac was asking for another floppy but there was already a floppy in the drive.
• Fixed minor conflict with SoundMaster. Symptom: A beep after closing the settings dialog.
• In Desktop Info, don’t list invisible or ejected volumes.
• In File Info, fixed a crash if you tried to get info on a file that had just been deleted.
• In Move to Trash, corrected a problem that caused Super Boomerang’s “Show Info” line not to appear on the bottom of the dialog.
New in 1.3
----------
• New “Recent Items” folder. Notice also that you can select a folder with the option key down, to list the folder in “Recent Items” without actually opening the folder. This can be used as a workaround for the 5-level limit on hierarchical menus.
• Volume Watch has been eliminated as a separate program, with its function incorporated into OtherMenu.
• If you attempt to open an alias that has been disconnected from the original file, you will be given an opportunity to redefine or delete the alias.
• Many changes in the preferences dialog.
• New “Clip Info” external.
• New option to disable OtherMenu if At Ease is running but Finder is not running.
• Now invisible volumes will not be displayed by Volume Info or Put Away. This turns out to be a more appropriate way to handle the “Mail Enclosures” problem mentioned in the 1.2.7 changes.
• If you cancel a mounting dialog for a volume, OtherMenu will no longer report a “error -128, user cancelled” message.
• Corrections to handling of ejected diskettes in OtherMenu and several externals.
• The menu disappearance delay has been removed, because it was unclear that it actually did anything.
• Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the menu item for a removable disk to show the contents of some previously-mounted removable disk.
• “Hard to Soft Wrap” now provides a menu bar when showing its about box.
• “Copy File” has a color progress bar.
• In “Date/Time”, “Delete”, “Memory Map”, “Paste Clips”, and “Volume Info” fixed a bug that could cause a lack of error message when there was a failure to save changed settings.
• In “File Info”, fixed a bug by which an i/o error could cause a crash.
• Obscure and cosmetic changes to some other externals.
